Anisa is an Indonesian citizen who chose Korea as her destination of choice to study Quran studies. Anisa has been wearing contact lenses since 5th grade and the discomfort had become unbearable. At this point Anisa decided it’s time to make a permanent change by seeking vision correction and a clinic that could assist her.
Anisa originally set out by searching for a clinic by searching on Google and Naver (Korean search engine) and after some time spent this way, she remembered that her favorite singer, Gray, had received vision correction. She discovered the clinic that Gray went to was in fact B&VIIT. The B&VIIT site looked great and provided Anisa with many options to choose from.
Anisa was relieved that she had assistance from Rosa, the English coordinator at B&VIIT, who would help her do her vision correction examinations in English. After completing her eye examinations, Anisa met Doctor Ryu for consultation. This is where Anisa’s story gets very interesting.
Previously other Doctors at other clinics had told Anisa that her vision was too bad and that she could not get vision correction. But after meeting Doctor Ryu, he told her in fact it was possible with Toric-ICL surgery! Implantable Phakic intraocular lenses (IPCL), or implantable collamer lens(ICL), are lenses made of collamer that are implanted into the eye permanently to reduce a person’s need for glasses or contact lenses. The Doctor told her she could expect a great increase in visual acuity and so Anisa decided to get the surgery.
The surgery itself only took 30 minutes and Anisa tells us that she was able to see from the next day. Absolutely amazing! Anisa went from being extremely visually impaired to 20/20 visual acuity after her surgery.
Another thing that was important to Anisa was the material of the IPCL. Due to Anisa’s religion it was important to her that the material be safe to use for muslims. At B&VIIT the IPCL that we use is made from hybrid hydrophilic acrylic, which means acceptable for muslim patients.
We are so happy to have put a smile on Anisa’s face and a twinkle in her eye.
